When you first get a new puppy or dog, one of the first things that you will need to do is figure out how you are going to keep the dog from running away and in your own yard. Buying and placing a fence in the yard is an expensive and high maintenance chore. Luckily today you have the opportunity to buy an electric dog fence that is affordable and easy to setup.
This electric fence gives you the peace of mind knowing that your dog isn't going to run away and you don't have to enclose the yard with an unattractive fence to do so. This way, your dog can play and run free without you having to worry about it going too far.
There are a few different types of electric fences you can get to keep your dog safe and sound in the comforts of your own property. You can get an underground or wireless electric dog fence. Here's a brief explanation about how both of them work.
The underground fence works by the owner (you) placing a small strip of wire around the property. You can dig a very small trench on the boundaries where you want to limit the dog from going. Most underground fences come included with ties and/or staples so you can place the wire on posts rather than having to dig it in.
The electric fence works as a training vehicle for your dog so that it starts to learn where its boundaries are. Whenever the dog gets close to the wired fence, an electric signal is sent through the collar of the dog and delivers a short yet non-harmful electric shock to the dog.
With time, the dog will make the associative connection of where its boundaries are, and will no longer go near where it is supposed to go. Certain boundary markers like flags are also a good idea so that the dog can make a visual connection of its boundaries as well. Eventually, the dog will not go beyond its boundaries even if the fence and/or collar are not activated.
A wireless electric dog fence works in the same regard as the underground fence, but it instead sends a radio transmission signal to the collar. If the dog ventures out of the range of the signal (you can set it to transmit as far as you want) it will deliver the shock.
